My Rosemary sprig, which I had placed in water for weeks, suddenly grew little roots!
I was so excited I immediately planted the little tyke, and now I am worried I might have done it too soon! I guess time will tell, but I am hoping this hardy little plant will pull through!

As you can see, I had to improvise a little home for her :) |
I love fresh rosemary, sage, and mint. Can I grow all of them that easily?
ReplyDeleteMaybe i will start my own herb garden!
Hi there! Yes, I am just a beginner myself and I chose these herbs (mint, basil and rosemary) because they are very easy to grow! mint is basically a weed and will spread everywhere, I have to trim mine often to keep it under control! Also, both rosemary and mint are perennials, so I won't need to replant them every year ;)
DeleteI don't know too much about sage and have never grown it, but a quick google search revealed it is also perennial and can also be grown from clippings.
I just bought the sprig of fresh rosemary at the market and, after a couple weeks in water, on a nice warm windowsill, it had grown little roots! I have read that the same would happen with mint or sage.
If you want to try it, get clippings that are about 4 inches long and cut off the leaves near the bottom (don't pull them off, since this can hurt the stem!) I just put mine in water but I read that if you dip the tip of the stem in some "root-inducing hormone powder" (???) they can grow roots much faster and reliably.
I really think you should try it! Having the herbs fresh and close at hand definitely makes me more likely to use them in the kitchen :D
